The Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux Chair in Arts Management

Created in 1991, the HEC Montréal Chair in Arts Management was named in honour of Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux, in recognition of a joint $1 million contribution from these donors and Transcontinental Inc. The Chair was founded by Professor François Colbert, and since June 1, 2026, Professors Danilo C. Dantas and Renaud Legoux have served as its co-holders.

Through its research and publications on arts management, the Chair has helped establish arts and cultural industries as a recognized field of inquiry, an effort that led to the founding of the International Journal of Arts Management (IJAM) in 1998. The Chair also played a central role in establishing AIMAC, the International Association of Arts and Cultural Management, whose biennial conference, held since 1991, remains the most important gathering of arts management researchers worldwide.

HEC Montréal also offers a range of training programs in arts management, including a graduate diploma in cultural organizations management (DESSGOC), a Master’s in cultural organizations Management (MMOC), and an International Master’s in Arts Management (MMIAM), the latter taught in English in partnership with Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas.

The Chair organizes seminars and conferences on topics of interest to the academic and arts communities, and it awards an annual Cultural Manager Prize.
