The Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux Chair in Arts Management

Founded in 1991, the Chair in Arts Management at HEC Montréal is named for Carmelle and Rémi Marcoux, in recognition of a joint contribution of $1 million from these donors and Transcontinental Inc. Professor François Colbert is the founder and current holder of the Chair.

The Chair conducts and publishes research on arts management, and in this way draws attention to the particular challenges facing managers in the arts and cultural industries. These research activities led the Chair to launch the International Journal of Arts Management (IJAM) in 1998.

HEC Montréal offers several options for specialized training in arts management. Chief among the School’s offerings are its diplôme d’études supérieures spécialisées en gestion d’organismes culturels (DESSGOC – Graduate Diploma in the Management of Cultural Organizations); its maîtrise en management des entreprises culturelles (MMEC – Master of Management in Cultural Enterprises); its Master of Management in International Arts Management (MMIAM, offered in collaboration with SMU in Dallas and SDA Bocconi in Milan); and its doctorate in Administration, with a track in Marketing and Management in the Arts, Cultural Industries and Media (PhD).

The Chair in Arts Management offers seminars and conferences on a variety of topics of interest to both the academic community and the artistic community. Each year the Chair presents a Cultural Manager Award and manages a Mentorship Program.
